Colourpop Sweet Talk Collection

Yes, it’s not long since the last time I did a post on a Colourpop haul, but the Sweet Talk collection just called to me! And come on, you’ve got to admit the packaging is gorgeous (obviously I didn’t just buy it for the outer packaging, but the products inside are gorgeous too!)!

As with last time, it took under a week from dispatch to delivery (just over a week from order to delivery), however this time the tracking information I was provided with didn’t work which was a little frustrating. Everything arrived as expected, and nothing was broken or damaged however, so overall I was happy with the delivery process.

I picked up the lightest of the six shades of Crème Lux Lipstick released in this collection, ‘Spring Roll’, as well as two of the Jelly Much Shadows, and the eyeshadow palette. To make my order up to the $50 threshold for free international shipping, I also grabbed two items from the regular collection.

‘Spring Roll’ ($7 at Colourpop): This was slightly deeper than I expected it to be, and even though it’s described as a “warm pinky nude”, I don’t see much pink in it – it definitely falls more on the brownish-peach end of the nude spectrum, in my opinion. I do, however, like the colour; it just wasn’t exactly what I expected. The formula is creamy and feels nice on the lips. Like most crème lipstick formulas, it’s not as long-lasting as a matte finish, but you’ll still get a decent couple of hours out of this before it needs reapplying.
‘Whistlin’ Pixie’ ($8 at Colourpop): The website lists this shade as a “warm terracotta with a gold sheen”, and I think they’re spot on with that! As you can see from the swatch above, the gold sheen is extremely pronounced when the shadow catches the light, which helps to make a deeper shade more wearable for me. The formula is exactly the same as I described the last time, and on a more random note, I really like having the coloured packaging as it allows me to tell them apart even if I store them the right way up (the sticker with the shade name is on the bottom of the jar, and there’s no way of telling them apart from top down in the usual packaging), since I prefer not to store them upside down since it causes most of the product to adhere to the inner plastic cap making it messier to use.
‘Close to You’ ($8 at Colourpop): I am absolutely in love with this shade. It’s a beautiful baby pink, with gold and magenta glitters to it, which causes it to shift between the two in different lights, as you can see in the picture above, even though it is not described as a duochrome shade. I will say, however, that this is not as pigmented as the other Jelly Much Shadows I own, and doesn’t have a particularly strong base shade: the focus of this is really the glitter.

‘Sweet Talk’ ($18 at Colourpop): I am so happy I decided to pick this up! Not only are the colours perfect for spring, but it’s also a bit more interesting than your standard eyeshadow palette. As well as the standard Colourpop pressed powder eyeshadow formula, this palette also includes one of their Super Shock Shadows, and two pressed glitter shadows, so you can really play with textures a bit and achieve a really interesting look (so long as you like peachy coral shades!).
There are seven matte shades: ‘Catch Me’ is a light peachy nude; ‘Work It’ is an interesting mustardy brown that would be great as a transition shade; ‘Dress Maker’ and ‘Meadow’ are quite similar and are your true coral shades in the palette, with ‘Meadow just a hair deeper. Personally I think ‘Dress Maker’ is a bit redundant since you can pretty much get the same effect by applying ‘Meadow’ lightly. Finally, ‘ICYMI’ is a deep orange, ‘West Side’ is a camel brown, and ‘Feel Free’ is a deep reddish brown. All the mattes are pigmented and blendable, and I was very impressed with them!
‘Garden Date’ and ‘Melody’ are the only two metallic pressed powder shadows, and both have gold shimmer running through them, but ‘Melody’ has a warmer base shade than ‘Garden Date’ which pulls a bit pinker. ‘Garden Date’ also feels creamier to the touch to me, almost like a blend between a powder shadow and a Super Shock, but they both apply nicely.
‘Side2Side’ is your true Super Shock Shadow, and is probably my favourite colour in the palette. It’s a peachy champagne that is packed with lots of silver and violet glitters, bringing a beautiful luminosity to the eyes. It’s also supposedly specially formulated to prevent it from drying out in the palette, so I’ll be interested to see how it ages. ‘Prima Drama’ (pink champagne with copper) and ‘Early Mornin” (bright yellow orange) are your pressed glitters. As with all pressed glitters, you’ll want to use these with a sticky base, and even then you will probably get a little bit of fall-out throughout the night, but I’m a glitter lover and it’s worth it to me! I particularly love all the different shades of glitter in ‘Prima Drama’: it really adds to the interest and gives more dimension to the eye.
At the time of writing, this is unfortunately out of stock on the Colourpop website, and I can’t find any information on whether or not this will restock, and if so, when, so if you want it, I’m afraid you’ll just have to keep an eye on the website.

Finally, there’s the two bits I picked up from the standard collection.
‘I Like You’ ($5 at Colourpop): Honestly… I was a little disappointed by this one. The formula is nice and creamy, but the colour just does not match the website and wasn’t what I was hoping for. I should have given more attention to the description which described this as a “glittery pastel orange”, which it is (quite a yellowy orange at that), but the images showed a beautiful strong pink shift, which just isn’t there at all.
‘We Jammin” ($8 at Colourpop): Love this. This is a very soft white gold with a sheen but no glittery chunks to it, and would be beautiful as an inner corner highlight colour, or to really add some brightness to a halo eye. I can see myself getting a fair bit of use out of this!

So all in all, I am starting to see some of the criticisms of Colourpop: inaccurate colour images on the website and tracking information that doesn’t work, but in general the products are good quality, and at a good price point so I can definitely see myself continuing to purchase from them!
